Artlandia Art Show 2015

This past weekend I did something I've never done before.
My first arts and craft show outside the home.

The shows name was "Artlandia"
It was created to promote local artist
here in Johnson City and the neighboring communities.

What a job!
My little makeshift booth.

Although my sister and I have hosted a Holiday Fiber Arts Show and Sale
for the past six years in our home,
it's quite a different story when you have to haul your props and
merchandise to another location,
set up, sale and break it down and then
haul it all back home and put it away.

I have a new respect for all those artist and craft people that do it all the time.
I imagine, if you do it all the time you develop a system and
you may even have it down to an art itself.

There were about 20 artist in house and lots of variety of mediums.

My next door neighbors were Mary and Sara Hacker.
Mary was the artist, she creates the most amazing
vintage Christmas Santas.
The detailing was spectacular.

There were a couple of wonderful potters there.

A wood turner.

Other fiber artist.

Vintage mixed media.

Painters

And many more.
Will I do it again?  The jury is still out.
Will see.

Seaside Bound

There's a little planned community in Florida
called Seaside Beach.
It got a lot of attention several years ago,
right after in was built.

You may remember "The Truman Show"
a film staring Jim Carrey that was filmed there.

It was named one of the best beaches in the world
by Leisure Magazine in 2012.

Each house in this idyllic  town
is unique and special.  Many of them are owned
by year round residents, others can be rented for a price.
If you are like me, a day trip there would be more friendly to your purse.

The shopping there has its own flavor as well.
Gift shops, book stores, galleries and such.
That's where I come in.

The Newbill Collection by the sea
is a small gallery owned and operated by
Annette Newbell Trujillo.

I sent three pieces of my work
for her consideration a couple of weeks back.
I've just got the word that she has accepted
them for a ninety day trial.
I'm so excited, but nervous!

I'm sending her six more pieces.
This is one of them, I call it
"Heaven is a Beach".

"My Happy Place"

"In The Garden"
I'm sending three more as well,
two of them are brand new.
I was so excited when I got the news
that I forgot to take pictures of them before
I packed them up to ship.

This is such a great opportunity for me.
I can't wait to see how it develops.
I won't be quitting my day job just yet,
but I will be spending a little more time
at my crafting table which is fine by me.
I'll let you know how it goes.

As Time Goes By

How could you say no to this
outrageous sweater
when you create wreaths out of
up-cycled sweater.
You wouldn't.

It's a "Susan Bristol" sweater.
She can rock a novelty sweater like no other.
It consisted of all these timepiece appliques.
I knew I would come up with something.

I actually came up with three somethings.
This is the smaller of the three,
an eight inch wreath.

This was my first one, a sixteen inch.
If you know me at all,
you know my favorite combination
is black and white,
so I had a ball.

The third one is here, also a sixteen inch.
They are all up now on my
etsy shop
take a look...go a head, you've got the time.

Three For The Road

I'm sending three examples of my work
to a small gallery in
Seaside Beach Florida.

It's called
Newbill Collection by the sea.

Keep your fingers that they like what they see.
My hope is that the will
want to carry a few of my wreath.

I'll let you know how it turns out.

Burberry Wreath

 Last week, while vacationing near
Seaside Beach Florida, I stumbled across this
"Burberry" sweater.
You would have thought I struck gold.

I knew I could put it to good use.
It was way too small for me to wear,
but for my up-cycled sweater wreaths,
it was perfect.

It was made from cotton and acrylic.
Had some beautiful cabling,
and was a nice neutral.

I went to the Burberry site hoping for some
inspiration on how to proceed.
In the end I went with the
traditional.

Back in the day
when I was a Victoria's Secret
store manager, I won a contest
and the prize was a "Burberry" umbrella
from Harrods.
The umbrella has been since lost or stolen
(I'm not sure which, just one day I realized it was gone)
but I did still have the iconic plaid
umbrella sleeve.

I went to work this morning
crafting and creating.
Covered a sixteen inch wreath frame with the sleeves,
created a few flowers.
I used some of the fabric for the centers and then
made a simple bow.

I used a couple of other cotton sweaters
to make some contrasting black and white flowers.

Reattached the shell buttons
and of course the label.
I hope someone will see it and love it.
You can find this and many more
unique wreaths at
on etsy.
